Childhood is a magical time when the world feels vast and full of wonders. Each day is filled with laughter, play, and dreams.
While adulthood often takes us away from this perspective, International Children’s Day reminds us of the joy and innocence that define our early years. This special day has become a symbol of unity, cultural exchange, and the promise of a brighter future.

June 1st marks International Children’s Day, first celebrated in 1950 following a resolution made during the 1925 World Conference on Child Welfare in Geneva. Today, over 60 countries around the globe observe this day, each with its own unique traditions. In China, grand festivals filled with games and performances take center stage. In Turkey, the day merges with a national holiday, celebrating culture and unity. Meanwhile, children in Australia enjoy outdoor activities, and in Germany, the day features theatrical performances and family picnics. Sacramento has crafted its own distinctive way of celebrating.
Sacramento: The Birth of a Tradition

In 2004, State of California saw the start of a unique tradition — The International Kids Festival. With the support of California Assemblymember Roger Dickinson and the vision of Sergey Ivannikov, CEO of Russian American Media, and Larissa Gonchar, Director of Community Outreach Academy, this Festival was officially recognized as State celebration. Since then, the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend in May has transformed William Land Park into a vibrant hub filled with laughter, music, and joy.
“Our goal was to create a celebration that reminds us of childhood and brings families together,” says Sergey Ivannikov, the festival’s producer and the head of Russian American Media. “Seeing children laugh, play, and form new friendships is the greatest reward for our efforts.”
Bringing Hearts and Cultures Together

Today, The International Kids Festival draws thousands of attendees, creating a space where lifelong friendships begin. Children from various cultural backgrounds not only play and have fun but also learn about one another. The bonds formed at the festival often last for years, connecting families and communities.
The festival professional stage features talented young performers—singers, musicians, and dancers—showcasing the cultural heritage of numerous countries. This celebration is a rare opportunity to experience the diversity of cultures brought together in one place.
A Program Full of Joy

This year, the festival is thrilled to welcome Hollywood actor and professional illusionist Will Roberts as the stage multicultural program host. Known for his roles in over 30 films, including his recent portrayal of General Marshall in the award-winning movie “Oppenheimer,” Roberts will captivate the audience with his charismatic presence and magical performances. As a two-time Guinness World Record holder, Roberts’ participation is set to be one of the most captivating highlights of the festival.
Beyond the stage, children can enjoy pony and a miniature train rides, rock climbing, bounce houses, and remote-controlled car races. STEM enthusiasts will be drawn to the STEMpire zone, where kids and parents can conduct exciting experiments.
The festival will host over 150 organizations, including non-profits, businesses, medical institutions, and educational centers, offering resources for parents and families. The Festival organizers and sponsors such will provide souvenirs and giveaways, while branded food tracks will serve global cuisine, delighting guests with dishes from around the world.
A Gateway to New Opportunities

This Festival is more than just fun and games. It’s a place where families can access valuable resources, parents can discover educational programs for their children, and communities can connect. This day inspires and provides a platform for growth, bringing everyone together as one big family.
