Martin Ross is a results driven public servant and community strategist dedicated to improving lives across the Sacramento region. As Deputy Director at the Health Education Council, he leads initiatives that address critical gaps tied to the Social Determinants of Health, including access to care, education, workforce development, public safety, and mental health. His work focuses on delivering practical solutions that create measurable impact in underserved communities.

With a foundation in chemical engineering from UC Berkeley and an MBA, Martin combines analytical thinking with a deep understanding of people and systems. He often describes himself as a โ€œsocial engineer,โ€ reflecting his ability to design and implement programs that drive meaningful community transformation.

Martinโ€™s leadership spans decades of service. He began his career as an engineer with the U.S. EPA and California Drinking Water Program before dedicating 20 years to The Salvation Army, where he rose to the rank of Major and led initiatives in diverse communities across the Western United States. He later served as Executive Director of Ready to Work, helping individuals facing homelessness and reentry barriers secure employment and rebuild their lives.

His commitment to public service continues through multiple appointed and advisory roles. Martin serves as Chairman of the Sacramento County Equal Employment Opportunity Advisory Committee and as a Commissioner with the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency. He has also contributed to local planning and community development efforts through the Carmichael Community Planning Advisory Council.

Recognized as a 2025 Top 20 Change Maker by the Sacramento Bee and Nehemiah Leadership Program, Martin is known for his ability to turn vision into action. He is also a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum and an active member of civic organizations including Kiwanis and Elks.

Now, Martin Ross is bringing his experience, leadership, and community-first mindset to education, running for Trustee of the Los Rios Community College District. His campaign reflects a lifelong mission to expand opportunity, strengthen workforce pathways, and build a more inclusive and resilient future.
