As President & CEO of the Council for Cross-Cultural Affairs (CFCCA), Alisa Yurchenko has become one of California’s leading voices in promoting cultural unity, business leadership, and community celebration. Under her direction, the Council organizes impactful programs that bring people together and highlight the power of diversity in shaping stronger communities. Among these initiatives, the Best Business Awards Ceremony & Gala has become a cornerstone event—an elegant evening that recognizes excellence, fosters connections, and inspires collaboration.

This year, the Gala will once again reach a new level of prestige by featuring the Miss California International Grand Finale on Friday, November 7, 2025—a dazzling showcase of beauty, talent, and cultural representation.

In this exclusive interview, Alisa shares her vision for cross-cultural dialogue, her passion for empowering leaders, and the inspiration behind creating events that not only honor achievement but also unite communities across California and beyond.

Alisa, how would you describe the mission of your organization?

At its core, our mission is about connection. We believe that when cultures come together, they create stronger, more resilient communities. The Council For Cross-Cultural Affairs promotes mutual understanding, collaboration, and leadership by creating platforms where business, culture, and art intersect.

The Best Business Awards Ceremony & Gala has become one of the signature events in California. What makes this event so special?

It’s truly a celebration of excellence. We recognize outstanding businesses and leaders who not only achieve professional success but also give back to communities. What makes it unique is the diversity of people who attend—entrepreneurs, civic leaders, cultural ambassadors—all gathered in one room. It’s a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish together.

This year the Gala will again feature the Miss California International Grand Finale. Why did you decide to bring these two events together?

Actually, it’s more than just two events—it’s a carefully curated program designed to create an unforgettable evening. The celebration begins with a VIP Reception, featuring live music, wine tasting, and hors d’oeuvres. This intimate setting provides a unique opportunity for sponsors and distinguished guests to connect, build relationships, and exchange meaningful business ideas in a relaxed and elegant atmosphere.

The main portion of the evening features a Slavic-style gourmet seven-course dinner, a dynamic entertainment program, greetings from elected officials, the prestigious Best Business Awards Ceremony, and, of course, the Grand Finale of the Miss California International beauty pageant.

Each part of the program serves the same purpose: to uplift and showcase talent, achievement, and leadership. The Best Business Awards honors outstanding business and community leaders who drive progress and inspire others, while Miss California International empowers young women to serve as ambassadors of culture, beauty, and social impact. By bringing these elements together, we create a stronger stage where business, culture, and community intersect in a truly powerful way.

Before the Grand Finale in November, you’re also hosting a Live Casting Call. Can you tell us about that?

Yes, we’re very excited! The Live Casting Call will take place on Friday, September 5th, from 6–9 PM at Scott’s Seafood on the River, 4800 Riverside Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95822, one of our valued premium sponsors. This is the very first step for young women who dream of wearing the crown and representing California not only on a local level, but also on an international stage.

It’s also a wonderful opportunity to highlight our partnership with Scott’s Seafood on the River—a venue known for its elegance, warm hospitality, and breathtaking views. Hosting the Casting Call there adds a touch of prestige to the experience, and we’re proud to bring such an important moment to a place that embodies quality and excellence.

After the finalists are chosen, contestants will be officially welcomed into the program. They will meet the event organizers, producers, choreographers, and motivational speakers, as well as connect with fellow contestants. It will be a time to share their personal stories, showcase their aspirations, and step into a community that will support their growth. From that moment begins a six-week journey of preparation leading up to the Grand Finale in November—an intensive and inspiring process filled with rehearsals, mentorship, and training designed to help them shine on stage and beyond.

How does the Miss California International pageant reflect the values of cross-cultural affairs?

Miss California International is about much more than beauty—it’s about voice, vision, and representation. Contestants come from diverse backgrounds, and each one brings her own story, heritage, and aspirations. It’s a living example of California’s cultural mosaic, and it reflects the values of inclusion and leadership we uphold.

What makes this pageant truly meaningful is the role of the winner. She will not only wear the crown and receive $10,000+ in prizes, but also serve as an ambassador—representing our community throughout 2026 at cultural, business, and charitable events. Her presence will symbolize the unity of cultures and the strength of leadership that comes from diversity. In this way, Miss California International becomes a platform for empowerment, dialogue, and positive impact far beyond the stage.

You’ve been recognized as a leader in uniting communities. What motivates you personally to do this work?

I grew up in Uzbekistan, one of the most hospitable countries in the world, where community and generosity are a way of life. From an early age I learned that true success is not measured by titles or wealth but by the lives you touch and the bridges you build. That lesson has stayed with me, and it guides everything I do today.

My motivation comes from witnessing the impact of our work—whether it’s a business receiving recognition that opens new doors of opportunity, or a young woman standing on stage, discovering her voice and her confidence for the first time. I am inspired by seeing people step into their potential and knowing that, in some way, our efforts helped them get there.

It is also deeply personal for me. As an immigrant, I understand how important it is to feel included, respected, and empowered. That’s why I am passionate about creating platforms where people from all cultures can shine, share their talents, and inspire one another. Those moments of transformation—when someone feels seen, celebrated, and valued—remind me why I do what I do.

Organizing events at this scale must come with challenges. What’s the most rewarding part for you?

The most rewarding part is standing in the ballroom on the night of the Gala and seeing the energy in the room. People are networking, laughing, applauding, and genuinely celebrating each other. That atmosphere of unity and joy makes every challenge worthwhile.

What do you hope attendees will take away from this year’s Gala?

I hope they leave inspired. Inspired by the businesses recognized, by the courage of the young women on stage, and by the beauty of cultures coming together. My wish is that everyone leaves feeling proud of being part of a bigger story—one of collaboration and shared achievement.

Looking to the future, how do you see the role of the Council For Cross Cultural Affairs evolving?

We’re committed to expanding our programs, strengthening partnerships, and giving even more opportunities for leaders to connect. Our goal is to be a bridge between cultures and communities, and I believe the future will bring even greater collaborations and celebrations. We welcome any non-profit organization or government entity that can share community resources to support our programs and events.
