How Trust, Expertise, and Family Values Built Dream Car LLC

Long before Aleksandr Prostiakov became the Founder and CEO of Dream Car LLC, he was a thirteen-year-old boy surrounded by the parts of a completely disassembled motorcycle. Rebuilding it piece by piece gave him more than his first serious mechanical challenge, it revealed a natural ability to understand complex systems, solve technical problems, and bring machinery back to life. That early experience became the foundation of a professional career spanning more than fifteen years in automotive repair, advanced diagnostics, and business leadership.

Located in North Highlands, California, Dream Car LLC has earned a reputation for honest diagnostics, high-quality workmanship, and exceptional customer care. Under the leadership of Founder and CEO Aleksandr Prostiakov, the company has become a trusted destination for drivers seeking reliable automotive repair and maintenance.

With more than fifteen years of professional experience, Aleksandr has witnessed the remarkable transformation of the automotive industry, from traditional mechanical systems to todayโ€™s highly sophisticated, computer-controlled vehicles. His philosophy has remained unchanged throughout that evolution: treat every customerโ€™s vehicle as if it were your own, explain every recommendation honestly, and never compromise on quality or integrity.

Aleksandrโ€™s professional background includes experience working with Land Rover, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and an independent repair facility specializing in European vehicles. This combination of dealership-level technical experience and independent business expertise helped shape his vision for Dream Car LLC: a repair facility built around professionalism, transparency, advanced diagnostics, and long-term customer relationships.
In this exclusive interview, Aleksandr shares his entrepreneurial journey, discusses the future of automotive technology, explains why accurate diagnostics matter more than simply replacing parts, dispels common misconceptions about vehicle maintenance, and reveals why trust remains the most valuable tool in any repair shop.

Aleksandr, letโ€™s begin with your story. Where did your passion for automobiles begin?

I have loved vehicles for as long as I can remember. Like many boys, it started with bicycles, then mopeds, and eventually motorcycles. When I was about thirteen years old, I purchased my first motorcycle completely disassembled. It was essentially just a collection of parts. I brought everything home and spent countless hours assembling it by myself, studying how each component worked and figuring things out through trial and error. Looking back, I realize that was when I first understood that working with machinery was more than a hobby for me. I genuinely enjoyed learning how mechanical systems were designed and finding solutions to complicated technical problems.

Over time, that interest naturally developed into a profession. I later attended college, where I studied automotive repair and continued advancing my qualifications in electrical diagnostics and automotive electronics. Throughout my career I have attended professional diagnostic forums, advanced technical training programs, and industry competitions, where I earned first-place awards in diagnostic challenges. My professional experience includes dealership positions with Land Rover, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-Benz before moving into a multi-brand independent repair environment. Working with both European and non-European vehicles gave me a broad technical foundation that continues to benefit our customers today. Whether the vehicle is European, American, Japanese, Korean, or electric, I enjoy understanding how it was engineered and finding the right solution.

What experiences influenced you most as both an automotive specialist and a business owner?

The experience that had the greatest influence on my career came from working for other companies before opening my own repair shop.

I had the opportunity to work with Land Rover, then Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz, and later at an independent facility specializing in European vehicles. Those positions gave me much more than technical repair experience. Every company had its own approach to organizing work, communicating with customers, managing technicians, and developing internal processes. I paid close attention not only to the technical side of the profession but also to how a successful automotive business operates.

At age 22, Aleksandr joined a Volkswagen dealership, where he continued developing his expertise in manufacturer-specific diagnostics, maintenance, and repair. Working within Volkswagenโ€™s factory standards further strengthened the technical foundation of his automotive career.

Working with European automobiles every day gave me a deep understanding of their engineering, diagnostic systems, and repair requirements. At the same time, observing different business models helped me identify the principles I wanted to bring into my own company and the areas where I believed the customer experience could be improved. By the time I opened Dream Car LLC, I already had a clear vision of what I wanted the business to become. I wanted to create a repair facility associated with professionalism, honesty, technical competence, and consistently high-quality service.

At age 21, Aleksandr was working as a technician at a Land Rover dealership, gaining hands-on experience with one of the worldโ€™s most sophisticated luxury automotive brands. These early years laid the technical foundation for the expertise that would later lead to the creation of Dream Car LLC.

How has the automotive industry changed during the past fifteen years?

The most significant change has been the rapid development of automotive electronics. Modern vehicles contain far more electronic control modules, sensors, driver-assistance systems, cameras, communication networks, and software-controlled components than vehicles did fifteen years ago. I would not necessarily say that repairing automobiles has become more difficult. It has simply become different. As specialists, we must adapt to new technology, continue studying, and constantly improve our knowledge.

Today, we work with hybrid and electric vehicles, advanced software, high-voltage systems, sophisticated electronics, and increasingly complex data networks that allow different components of the vehicle to communicate with one another. In the past, an automotive technician primarily needed a strong understanding of mechanical systems. Today, successful repair requires much more than simply removing and replacing parts. A modern technician must understand electronics, software, automotive communication networks, computerized control systems, and advanced diagnostic procedures.

One of the greatest challenges today is identifying the true cause of a malfunction. Accurate diagnosis requires experience, technical knowledge, analytical thinking, and an understanding of how the vehicleโ€™s mechanical and electronic systems interact.

How important has electrical diagnosis become compared with traditional mechanical repair?

Electrical diagnosis has become one of the most important elements of modern automotive repair. Simply replacing a component is no longer enough. The part identified in a diagnostic trouble code is not always the actual cause of the problem. Modern vehicles integrate mechanical and electronic systems so closely that a technician must understand both. The specialist must determine whether the problem is caused by a defective sensor, damaged wiring, a communication failure, a software issue, a control module, or an underlying mechanical condition.

That requires professional diagnostic equipment, technical experience, and strong analytical ability. Unfortunately, some technicians simply read a trouble code and immediately replace the component mentioned in its description. In reality, a diagnostic code usually identifies the system in which a problem has been detected. It rarely confirms that one specific part has failed.

That is why proper diagnostics can save a customer a significant amount of money. When the actual cause is identified correctly the first time, the vehicle owner does not have to pay for unnecessary parts and repairs that fail to solve the original problem.

Working alongside Max Popov at 3 Bro, Aleksandr completed one of the most technically demanding projects of his career by replacing the entire electrical wiring system in a fully flood-damaged Mercedes-Benz S580 (W223).

Dream Car LLC has developed a strong reputation for servicing European vehicles. Why do so many European automobile owners trust your team?

Our specialization in European vehicles developed naturally because that is where my professional career began.

I spent many years working with brands such as Land Rover, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and other European manufacturers. That experience allowed me to develop an in-depth understanding of their engineering, diagnostic systems, service procedures, and repair technologies. I have always appreciated the engineering behind European automobiles. They deliver a distinctive level of performance, design, and driving experience, but they also require specialized knowledge, professional diagnostic equipment, and technicians who understand how those vehicles were designed to operate. Over the years, we have invested heavily in dealer-level diagnostic systems, specialized tools, technical resources, and ongoing professional education.

Those investments allow us to perform repairs according to manufacturer procedures and maintain the level of quality our customers expect. Although European vehicles remain an important area of specialization for us, we confidently service virtually every make and model. Experience working with some of the industryโ€™s most technically advanced automobiles gives our team the ability to diagnose and repair nearly any vehicle that comes into our facility. Whether someone drives a BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, MINI, Porsche, Volvo, Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevrolet, Lexus, Hyundai, Kia, Tesla, or another brand, that customer receives the same level of attention, professionalism, and care.

Aleksandr brings his work home, not because he has to, but because he genuinely loves solving complex automotive challenges.

Many drivers become nervous when a warning light appears on the dashboard. What is the biggest mistake they make?

There is no single answer because the same warning light can indicate many different conditions. When a warning indicator appears, the first step should be professional diagnosis to determine why it was activated. I also advise drivers to pay attention to how the vehicle is behaving. Has an unusual engine noise appeared? Has the vehicle lost power? Are there new vibrations? Has the steering or handling changed? These additional symptoms can help determine how serious the condition may be.

Sometimes the Check Engine light appears because of a relatively minor emissions-related issue. In other situations, it may indicate a much more serious condition that directly affects the performance or reliability of the vehicle. My advice is simple: do not panic, but do not ignore the warning either. The sooner the real cause is identified, the greater the likelihood that the repair will be simpler and significantly less expensive.

Alexander also mastered his experience working with Tesla cars, developing advanced skills in the field of high-voltage battery replacement and diagnostics of electric vehicles.

Many consumers believe they must take their vehicle to an authorized dealership for every service appointment to preserve the factory warranty. Is that true?

That is one of the most common misconceptions we hear. In most circumstances, having a vehicle serviced at a qualified independent repair facility does not automatically void the manufacturerโ€™s warranty. The important thing is that maintenance must be completed according to the manufacturerโ€™s requirements and that the repair facility can document what work was performed, which parts were installed, and which fluids were used. Using quality components and the correct engine oil is also extremely important. Those decisions directly affect the reliability and service life of the vehicle.

Attempting to save money by using inferior parts or fluids can eventually result in much more expensive repairs.
The choice between a dealership and an independent repair facility belongs to the vehicle owner. A highly qualified independent shop can provide excellent service, follow factory procedures, use premium-quality components, and often offer more competitive pricing. At the same time, I always tell people not to select a repair facility solely because of a recognizable name or an impressive sign. Choose it based on its reputation, experience, transparency, and the qualifications of its technicians.

There are excellent dealerships, and there are excellent independent repair facilities. The most important thing is finding professionals you can genuinely trust.

Many vehicle owners worry about being overcharged or sold repairs they do not actually need. How do you earn the trust of a first-time customer?

In my opinion, unnecessary repairs frequently begin with an incorrect diagnosis. If a technician fails to identify the true cause of a problem, there is a strong possibility that the customer will pay to replace components that were never defective. That is why we place such a strong emphasis on accurate diagnosis before recommending any repair. We also believe repair pricing should be as transparent as possible. We calculate labor using professional automotive software and recognized manufacturer labor-time standards rather than simply guessing how long a repair might take. That allows customers to understand that the work is being estimated according to accepted industry standards.

Transparency is another fundamental part of our process. Whenever possible, we show customers exactly what we have found. We may provide photographs, record videos, or invite the vehicle owner into the repair area so the customer can see the issue while the automobile is on the lift. Many customers come to us after receiving a diagnosis from another repair facility. Even then, we conduct our own inspection and verify the previous findings. Sometimes we agree completely with the original diagnosis. In other cases, we discover that certain components still have substantial service life remaining and do not need to be replaced. We always provide our honest professional opinion because long-term trust is far more important to us than earning money from one unnecessary repair. During major repairs, we often document the process with photographs. I believe customers should clearly understand what work was completed and exactly what they are paying for.

When someone visits Dream Car LLC for the first time, what kind of experience do you want that person to have?

Most importantly, I want every customer to feel that the vehicle is in the hands of qualified professionals. A vehicle problem is always stressful because the owner may not understand how serious it is, how much the repair will cost, or whether the recommendations being presented are trustworthy. I want each customer to feel confident that the vehicle will be diagnosed correctly and repaired by people who genuinely understand their work. My goal is for the customer to leave not only with a properly functioning vehicle, but also with complete confidence that the issue was resolved professionally and thoroughly. We also work hard to create a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. I do not believe visiting an automotive repair shop should make people feel intimidated or afraid. We explain everything in clear, understandable language, answer questions honestly, and treat every customer the way we would want members of our own family to be treated.

To me, a great repair facility is about much more than equipment and tools. It is a place where people know they will receive honest advice, professional workmanship, and respectful treatment.

What qualities distinguish an outstanding automotive technician from an average one?

An outstanding automotive technician is someone who has matured not only professionally but personally.

Technical knowledge is essential, but experience eventually becomes a way of thinking. A true master approaches every diagnosis calmly and methodically. Nothing is random. Every step follows a logical sequence developed through years of practice. Just as an Olympic athlete perfects every movement until it becomes instinctive, an experienced technician performs diagnostics with the same precision. There are no unnecessary actions, no guessing, and no replacing parts simply to see whether the problem disappears. Experience allows you to recognize patterns, remain patient, and focus entirely on understanding the vehicle before making any repair decisions. I also believe great technicians are created through mentorship. Early in my own career I was fortunate to work with an exceptional mentor who believed in me, challenged me, and taught me how to think rather than simply how to repair vehicles. That experience shaped the professional I became. Today I hope to do the same for the next generation. If I meet a young technician who is genuinely curious, disciplined, and willing to learn, I would be proud to share everything I have learned throughout my career. Knowledge should not end with one generation. It should be passed on.

Aleksandrโ€™s technical expertise extends beyond automobiles. Throughout his career, he has also gained hands-on experience repairing personal watercraft and boats, further expanding his knowledge of engines, electrical systems, and marine mechanics.

Running a successful company can be demanding. How do you balance entrepreneurship, family life, and leadership of a growing business?

Honestly, balancing business and family life is one of the most difficult parts of entrepreneurship. Sometimes it feels as though you have two families. One is waiting for you at home, and the other is your business. Both require your time, attention, energy, and commitment. No matter how challenging the workday may be, my family helps me maintain perspective and emotional balance. After a difficult day, you return home to people who support you, and that gives you the strength to continue moving forward.

Their support reminds me every day why I work so hard. Those same values are at the foundation of Dream Car LLC. We want every customer to feel respected, appreciated, and confident that the recommendations they receive are honest and the service is truly professional.

For me, success is not measured only by revenue or the size of the company. True success means continuing to move forward despite challenges. It means constantly developing, learning, adapting to change, and refusing to give up.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Do vehicles remain part of your life even when you are away from the repair shop?

To be honest, I do not have as much free time as I would like. Operating a business requires tremendous attention, so whenever I have an opportunity to step away, I try to spend that time with my family. However, machinery has always been much more than a profession for me. I enjoy motorcycles and personal watercraft, and they remain among my favorite interests. I may not always have time for a long motorcycle trip, but even riding the motorcycle to work can help me clear my mind, change my perspective, and simply enjoy the road.

When we spend time together as a family, we enjoy being outdoors, especially near the water. Those are the moments that allow us to truly relax and create memories that stay with us. Even at home, I often read about new automotive technologies, study modern systems, and follow developments in the industry. I genuinely enjoy what I do, so learning has become part of my everyday life.

If you could give every vehicle owner one piece of advice that could save thousands of dollars over the life of the vehicle, what would it be?

I would advise people to treat their vehicles the same way they treat their own health. Most people do not intentionally wait until a health problem becomes severe before visiting a doctor. We understand the importance of preventive examinations because preventing a problem is almost always easier and less expensive than dealing with its consequences. The same principle applies to an automobile.

Routine maintenance and periodic inspections allow technicians to identify minor concerns before they develop into expensive repairs. I also encourage people to pay attention to their vehicles. If you notice an unusual sound, a warning light, a vibration, a change in performance, or anything else that feels different, do not ignore it. Using quality parts and proper automotive fluids is equally important. I often compare it with good nutrition. The better you care for your body, the longer it is likely to remain healthy. A vehicle operates according to a similar principle. High-quality oil, proper filters, and dependable components directly affect a vehicleโ€™s reliability, service life, and total cost of ownership.

Finally, what message would you like to leave with our readers?

I believe every profession has its own school of life. Mine has always been the automotive world. Through it I have learned patience, discipline, responsibility, and the importance of never giving up when a problem appears impossible. Every difficult repair teaches you something. Every satisfied customer reminds you why your work matters. That continuous learning is what keeps me excited after more than fifteen years in this profession.

My advice to every reader, regardless of what career you choose, is simple: if your work genuinely brings you joy, keep learning and never stop improving. I live by a simple principle: Nothing is impossible. There is always another solution, another lesson, and another opportunity to become better than you were yesterday. That philosophy has guided my entire career, and it is the same philosophy that guides every vehicle we repair at Dream Car LLC.

While continuing his professional career, Aleksandr participated in a national automotive diagnostics competition, where he tested his technical knowledge and diagnostic skills alongside some of the industryโ€™s leading specialists. The experience further strengthened his commitment to continuous professional development.
