Art is all about converting nothing into something. David Garibaldi, a Sacramento based artist, can transform an empty canvas into an incredible work of art. From crayons to graffiti and from trumpets to hip hop dance, music and art have been a part of David’s life ever since he was a young child. By combining rhythm and hue, David Garibaldi has grown into a worldwide performance painter who communicates via body movement through his music all while creating unbelievable images with his brush.
How do you overcome creative blocks?
I rarely get creative blocks because I’m always creating. When you have a constant flow of creative ideas, inspiration will reward you continually.
What is your most important artist tool? Is there something you can’t live without in your studio?
Music is my greatest source of creative inspiration so I’m constantly playing different types of sounds. Music helps me tap into emotions that ultimately bring out more ideas.
How is your personality reflected in your work?
My work is filled with energy, movement and color. I’m always on the go and I love living a colorful life full of adventure. I guess you can say my life imitates art, or my art imitates life.
What is your favorite completed piece?
There are so many to choose from but my all time favorite painting was the one I performed at the White House of and for President Obama. It was a moment in time captured in paint. I was so honored to be there and it was created with a truly grateful heart.
What brings you the greatest joy?
First and foremost, my kids – I have two beautiful children and I love seeing the world through their eyes. When it comes to creating, I get the most joy from using my platform to help people in need.
Name 1 thing on your bucket list.
To visit Africa; it’s my last continent to visit besides Antarctica.
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
Not a lot of people know that I used to be in hip-hop dance groups growing up. I actually left dance to start painting. The original members of the Jabbawockeez founded the last group I was in. Put on any music and I will not be shy to dance.
If you got in trouble, which friend would you call for help?
My mom for sure!
